Optometry plays a vital role in managing these patients in that Early detection and treatment reduces the severity of vision loss from diabetic macular edema and choroidal neovascularization New validated technologies are available to enhance the primary care optometrists ability to detect functional and structural change in the macula This course will demonstrate that it is time for clinicians to move beyond the Amsler grid for monitoring vision. By employing new technologies to monitor visual function, specifically using devices for home vision monitoring, visual outcomes can be improved.
